High-quality berry wine, crafted in Vermont.
Maquam is a small, family-owned winery located on the shores of Lake Champlain in northwestern Vermont. Our award-winning, limited-production fruit and grape wines are crafted by the Brooks family on land that’s been in the family since the 1600’s.
What makes our wines unique?
Our fruit trees and bushes benefit from proximity to Lake Champlain’s nearby shoreline, resulting in an extended fruit-growing season. The still waters of St. Albans Bay and the temperate climate allows our black currants plenty of time to ripen – resulting in deep color and amplified complexity of flavor in our wines. With the opening of the new winery in Milton, Vermont, we will add acres of grapes each year, and look forward to making our first grape wine in 2020. Our chief winemaker and sommelier, Dominic Rivard, with 20+ years of experience in traditional winemaking techniques, employs extended barrel aging when required to bring out the best in our wines.
Award-winning craftsmanship
We have been honored with multiple awards for our wines, including “Fruit Wine of the Year” at the New York International Wine Competition, and silver awards for our Black Currant and Blueberry & Pure Vermont Maple Syrup wines at the 2019 INDY wine competition at Purdue University.
Our History
Since the days of Prohibition, managing the transportation of alcohol from Quebec through upstate New York to New Jersey and NYC, the Brooks family has been in the booze business for generations. Including a beer distribution business in the 1950s, the family has adapted along the way and learned new techniques and explored new ideas. In 2017, we began making wine from syrup produced in Fairfield, Vermont and currently have dedicated about 7 of our 10 acres to the production of fruit wines.
